“Dark Shadows: The Complete Original Series” Sold Out — New Pressing Planned

Dark Shadows The Complete Original Series 01

MPI Home Video, distributers of the dvd releases of Dan Curtis’ horror-soap Dark Shadows, is reporting that their release of “Dark Shadows: The Complete Original Series” is completely sold out. This Limited Edition, coffin-shaped set is limited to 2,500 copies, and comes with a Barnabas Collins postcard, autographed by Jonathan Frid – Barnabas himself! MPI reports that all of their copies have sold out weeks ago, and now all online retailers (Amazon, Best Buy, DeepDiscount, etc) are completely sold out of their stock. If you’re looking for a numbered edition, complete with Frid’s autograph, I suggest you start patrolling eBay — or, you may¬†happen upon one in-store, but this is doubtful at best. Dark Shadows: The Complete Original Series debuts on April 10th, and includes an episode guide, the aforementioned autograph, interviews, behind the scenes features, a sticker indicating a limited number out of 2,500, and every one of the 1,255 episodes of the original series.

Dark Shadows: The Complete Original Series

Fear not, collectors. Those of you who are unfortunately able to get your claws on a copy of the Limited Edition will still be able to have the whole Dark Shadows series in one coffin-shaped box. On July 10th, MPI will release the second run of the complete series. This set will contain every feature of the Limited Edition, sans the Jonathan Frid autograph and the limited serial number. The set is availbe at MPI Home Video and your favorite online retailers.

Also on April 10th, MPI will release two compliation DVDs, Dark Shadows: Fan Favorites and Dark Shadows: Best of Barnabas, highlighting a number of collected episodes. These DVDs include episodes by Lara Parker (Angelique on Dark Shadows). On the same day, MPI will release the complete series in 32 separate volumes, for viewers who may already own some episodes, or may only want to own the Barnabas episodes (episode number 212 and beyond). Please note that buying the complete series is much more affordable if you purchase the boxed set, rather than purchase all 32 collections.

Dark Shadows is a gothic horror-soap opera, created in the late 1960’s by Dan Curtis. Set in the town of Collinsport, Maine, the story follows the wealthy but haunted Collins Family in their equally haunted estate. When, 200 episodes into the run, the vampire Barnabas Collins was introduced, the show became a smash cult-classic. A big-budget adaptation of Dark Shadows, directed by Tim Burton, and starring Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloe Moretz, Helena Bonham Carter, Jackie Earle Haley, and Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins, hits theaters May 11.
